Ella Emhoff Issues Angry Response to Hospital Rumors: ‘Not True’

Vice President Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter Ella Emhoff has denied suggestions that she was sent to hospital after suffering a mental breakdown following Donald Trump’s election victory.
Ella Emhoff, daughter of second gentleman Doug Emhoff, took to social media to hit out at those spreading false rumors about her.
Ella Emhoff was photographed crying while Harris delivered her concession speech at Howard University on November 6. She had previously shared a photo of herself crying on Instagram along with the caption “Truly no words. We are all going to get through this. It just f****** hurts like a b**** right now and that’s OK.”
The 25-year-old has now shared another Instagram update in which she lashes out at those who said she has been hospitalized in the wake of Trump’s crushing election victory over her stepmother.
“There’s a rumor about me having a mental breakdown and getting checked into a hospital. Not true,” Ella Emhoff wrote in an Instagram story alongside a picture of her with her pet dog.
“Also f*** you if you’re out there spreading that. There’s nothing wrong with showing emotion and crying. Anyone who says there is, probably needs a good cry.
“I’ve struggled with my mental health my whole life and I’m not ashamed of it,” she added. “I’ve literally just been playing fetch with Jerry.”
Newsweek has contacted Ella Emhoff for comment via social media.
One pro-Trump account on X, formerly Twitter, with more than 125,000 followers was among those pushing the false claim about Ella Emhoff.
“Woah! Ella Emhoff, Kamala’s stepdaughter, suffered a mental breakdown yesterday afternoon due to the grief from Kamala’s humiliating loss, and was admitted to an in-patient mental health crisis center in NY,” the Bad Hombre account posted.
Kerstin Emhoff, the mother of Ella Emhoff, also denied the claim in a reply to the post.
“More MAGA bs against my family. Leave my kids alone!!! Ella is doing great and spending a lovely day with her mom,” Kirsten Emhoff wrote. “Having the ability to show your emotions is something we should all hope for. It’s OK to not feel great right now. We aren’t letting anyone break our family down.”
Ella Emhoff described the emotions she felt following Harris’ defeat on her Soft Pins Substack.
“Ooof… What. A. Week,” she wrote on November 8. “I feel like we all need this extra this week.
“I know we are all feeling a lot of emotions right now. That’s normal, and it would be weird if we weren’t. I know I’ve gone through about 10 cycles of sadness, rage, and stress—and that was just this morning.
“I think it’s important to feel them all so they don’t fester inside.”
Trump is projected to have won Arizona, giving him a clean sweep of all seven main battleground states and an expected final total of 312 Electoral College votes.
