The autograph clip was cut from a larger letter completely handwritten by Robert E. Lee in 1852 (see our uploaded photos of the large letter, which we did for reference purposes). We, the current sellers, personally cut the offered autograph clip from the body of the larger letter.
The letter was purchased by the current sellers in 2021 from RR Auction, a well-known U.S. auction house based in New Hampshire.
