    This is an original letter dated April, 1864, Cedar Mountain, ,  where Charles Smith of the 13th Massachusetts Infantry, has written home to his mother, regarding his present condition, the fact that everyone must be drunk in order to fight this war, especially the Generals..... Letter is three pages, page, 6x9, with full transcription ..Charles Smith would never make it  home, he died in a rebel prison at Salisbury Prison, North Carolina, a day before Christmas, 1864.
